Haleon is a world-class health care company that has found an innovative processing solution to leverage renewable raw materials for its high-performance oral care products. This initiative helps to reduce the use of conventional plastics created with fossil fuels. Mold-Masters’ bio-resin processing experience in combination with premium hot runner melt management technology was trusted by Haleon to bring their recent sustainable project into reality.
The Dr. BEST GreenClean toothbrush features a bio-composite handle made of two essential components: a bio-based polymer from “tall oil”, a by-product of the wood processing industry which replaces petroleum in the plastic manufacturing process, and cellulose fibers. This is the first time this bio-composite is being applied to an oral care application. The toothbrush also features bristles made of 100% renewable castor oil and its plastic free packaging includes Haleon’s innovative product window made with renewable cellulose. The use of bio-based materials not only helped reduce the use of petroleum-based plastics but also lowered the carbon footprint of the product.
This product is another step in Haleon’s ongoing sustainability journey in oral care. Their ambition is to become the world’s most sustainable toothbrush manufacturer. They plan to apply the technology to other toothbrushes in their portfolio. It is working hard to increase the development of sustainable options across its oral care portfolio in recognition of the growing global consumer preference for more sustainable products.
